A Nursing Bra Is Essential For Breastfeeding Mothers

A nursing bra may not be something you have given a great deal of thought to as you wait for the arrival of your baby. However you will no doubt have given a lot of thought to how you will care for your newborn, including whether you are going to breastfeed him or her. If you have chosen to breastfeed then you need to prepare by getting yourself measured for a nursing bra.

There can be no doubt whatsoever that in the first weeks and months of life the best form of nourishment for any baby is its mother's milk. No matter how advanced infant formula may become it can never completely replicate the real thing.

Nature ensures that breast milk is the perfect food for your baby. A mother's milk changes to meet her baby's needs and is always served at exactly the right temperature. It is always pure and safe, provided of course that the mother does not ingest harmful substances herself.

Breast milk is so important in the first few days as it passes antibodies from the mother to the newborn to protect him.

Breast milk is the perfect food for your baby. Breastfeeding mothers are giving their babies the best possible start in life as far as their health is concerned.

Choosing A Nursing Bra

So if you have decided that you are going to breast feed is important that you get yourself a good nursing bra. In fact you will need a few of them. You need to get at least one before your baby is born so don't forget to add it to your shopping list. Mothers to be are sometimes so busy thinking about things for the baby such as a stroller, crib, clothes and so on that they forget that they themselves are going to need a few things. Also remember that you will need nursing pads to keep you dry and comfortable.

It is usually best to wait until a couple of weeks before your baby is due to get measured for your bra. You breasts will continue to grow right to the end of your pregnancy. After the birth when your milk comes into full flow around the 3rd day your breasts may increase again and so its better to wait until then to get more nursing bras.

Does A Nursing Bra Have To Look Frumpy?

Absolutely not. Years ago the nursing bra was a very functional item with an almost 'industrial' look. Today they are still functional, and in fact are far more functional than they were years ago. The difference today is that nursing bras are attractive and nice to wear. There are also some variations such as  nursing tanks which are made to a fashionable design. Thankfully these days we do not have to sacrifice style order to be breastfeeding mothers! There is a great deal of choice available to the breastfeeding mother.

At the same time the very first considerations should be comfort and fit. So if you find a bra which is comfy for you but looks as if it was made for your grandmother it may be the right one to choose.

Whatever you do please do not try to breastfeed using a normal bra. If you try to do this you will end up putting pressure on the breast tissue and this can quickly lead to mastitis. This is extremely unpleasant and its really not worth the risk. A nursing bra is well worth the small investment.
