Breastfeeding Mothers
Breastfeeding mothers know it is the most natural way to feed your baby. In fact
for thousands of years, it was the only way! Today breastfeeding is made easier with all of the different types of
nursing bra which are available.
However, things began to change as women were forced into the workplace beginning
during WWII and baby formula began to be an accepted way to nourish our children.
There are many benefits to this natural way to feed your child and very few
drawbacks. The children of breastfeeding mothers are generally healthier and more virus and bacteria resistant than
those who are fed formula. The natural immunization qualities of breast milk make it much less likely that your
child will succumb to colds, sore throats and other painful infections that are common in the first five years of
life.
Breast milk Is The Perfect Food
Breast milk has also been proven to change according to your child’s needs. When
your baby is first born, the milk contains antibodies to help him or her survive their first days outside the womb.
In the days that follow your body will produce milk that has the correct content of proteins, vitamins and fat to
nourish your baby and give her exactly what she needs. Your body will continue to make adjustments as the child
grows. For example, during the first year your milk will provide your child with enough fat content to coat
maturing nerve endings. This allows the nerves to carry impulses to the right places; without the proper fat
content the nerves will not develop properly. Breastfeeding mothers are providing their child with custom milk
tailored specifically to that child every day.
Breastfeeding Is Good For The Mother Too
Breastfeeding mothers are also healthier in many cases than those that are unable
to nurse their children. Because the production of milk demands calories and nutrients you will gradually lose the
weight you gained during pregnancy. Most of us gain the most around our hips and thighs but do you know why that
is? Fat around those areas is easier for your body to access and use for milk production! The longer you nurse your
child, the more fat from those two areas is used until you’re back down to your pre-pregnancy shape. While diet and
exercise are essential to getting your shape back, breastfeeding your baby will hasten the process naturally and
beneficially.
Breastfeeding Saves You Money
Breastfeeding is also free! If you’ve already priced baby formula, you know that
you’ll be spending about $50-100 a month depending on your baby’s needs. Why not put that money in a college fund
or a savings account? Your purse will thank you! If you breastfeed then all you will need is a good nursing
bra.
With more and more women forced to work outside the home, many might think
breastfeeding is an impossible luxury. If you are not able to be a stay at home parent, neither you nor your baby
has to give up the benefits of being a breastfeeding mother. Breast pumps are inexpensive, convenient and it takes
just a few minutes a day to express enough milk for your child while you have to be away from him or her. You can
even get a nursing bra which allows you to pump breastmilk from both breasts handsfree.
